Department of Radiology Techniques

About the Department
  • About the Department

The Department of Radiology Technology at the University of Bilad Alrafdain was established in 2017 and aims to graduate technical personnel specialized in radiological imaging. The department offers an educational program that leads to a bachelor's degree in radiology technology. The program prepares students to work on various imaging methods, including computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), nuclear medicine (NM), ultrasound (US), and digital imaging systems that are gradually replacing traditional films worldwide. Graduates of the department may work in hospitals, clinics, education, research, and industrial fields.

Vision, mission and goals
  • Vision

A distinguished department in teaching radiology and medical imaging technology, supporting the development, research and development process in Iraq, contributing to building a healthy society.

    Message

Qualifying local competencies capable of meeting the needs of the labor market in various fields of radiology and medical imaging technologies with a focus on professional ethics and achieving safety and quality requirements, and providing research and advisory services to the local community.

    Objectives

The Department of Radiology Technology seeks to achieve a number of goals to develop and advance the field of radiology services, through:

Graduating qualified specialists with the knowledge and skills that enable them to deal efficiently with radiology and medical imaging devices and perform radiological examinations of various types.

Training students on how to deal with various medical cases within the radiology department and methods of caring for them, and justifying radiation exposure to them.

Preparing students with the professional and administrative ethical foundations and imaging quality in the radiology department.

Educating students and familiarizing them with the risks of exposure to radiation and how to protect workers and patients from these risks.

Developing educational and research capabilities and creativity skills among students.

Providing the appropriate environment and necessary capabilities to enable faculty members to increase their ability and develop their academic skills to ensure the quality of educational outcomes.

Encouraging faculty members to actively contribute to scientific research and academic studies. Benefiting from the academic and professional experiences of faculty members in serving the university and contributing to solving some of the problems facing society in their field of specialization.

Graduate Description
  • Tasks and duties assigned to graduates of the department:

Operating radiological imaging devices, including developing devices, digital image display devices (CR), diagnostic devices for ultrasound waves (sonar), computed tomography (CT scan) and magnetic resonance imaging and taking care of them under the supervision of a specialist radiologist.

Working in diagnostic radiology centers in health institutions.

Preparing various radiological imaging devices for work by preparing special protocols and according to the examination required by the attending physician, and this is done under the supervision of a specialist radiologist in the radiology department in health institutions.

Conducting standard measurements of devices and measuring the percentage of radiation to which patients are exposed and the percentages permitted for patients and workers in the field of work.

Preparing patients for various examination purposes with diagnostic devices

    Job opportunities for graduates

Graduates of the Radiology Technology Program can work as follows:

Medical Imaging Specialist (MIS), Radiology Specialist / Radiologist.

Directors of the Department of Diagnostic Imaging

Clinical specialists in medical equipment companies

    Teachers in academic institutes

    Responsible employees

    Researchers

    Expected results

After successfully completing the requirements of the Bachelor of Diagnostic Radiology, we recommend continuing to develop skills and keep pace with the rapid development in this vital and important field by attending training courses, workshops and scientific conferences, or by joining the graduate program.

Here are some of the expected results after obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Diagnostic Radiology Techniques:

Apply knowledge in anatomy, physiology, and pathology.

The ability to identify and use the best radiological imaging techniques to provide radiological images with high diagnostic quality.

The ability to evaluate radiological images and verify their quality.

Balancing the principles of reducing the radiation dose to the patient and maintaining image quality.

Applying the principles of radiation protection for patients, oneself and others.

Contributing to providing the necessary health care and appropriate comfort for patients.

Full awareness of the medical condition and its history and taking appropriate measures.

Evaluating the patient's condition in emergency situations, and starting to save life by applying basic first aid for life.

Detecting faults in X-ray machines and accessories, and submitting a report to the competent authorities, in addition to determining the safe limits for operating these devices.

Using various technical skills in the field of medical imaging.

Participating in radiological quality assurance programs.

Communicating effectively and accurately with patients, doctors and other members of the health team.

Achieving the concept of health team spirit to improve the level of work.

Maintaining hygiene standards and safety procedures in the work area.
